Llandeilo resident and conservationist Tara-Jane Sutcliffe has announced her candidacy for Llandeilo Town Council in the upcoming by-election.
Residents living in the Castle Ward will be electing a new town councillor to represent them on Thursday 15th August.
Tara has campaigned against Bute Energy's pylon proposals, which are set to be constructed across the Tywi Valley and affect Llandeilo residents.
Tara said, "After a recent General Election, Llandeilo residents might be saying 'not another one!' in terms of an election, but I'm delighted to put my name forward in the Llandeilo Town by-election to serve our community.
"Llandeilo is my hometown, where I live with my family. My grandparents were dairy farmers here for many years."
Tara believes she can add real value as a local councillor.
"I serve on the board of a number of environmental organisations, including the Council of the National Trust and the West Wales Biodiversity Information Centre. The natural environment means a great deal to me, as it does local people.
"Which is why I have fought tooth and nail against Bute Energy's plans to desecrate the landscape with pylons. I have challenged Carmarthenshire County Council on investing their pension fund in the pylons.
"As your town councillor, I will use this platform to continue to fight them. The pylons are on the ballot paper this election."
Tara said there are other issues she wants to address as a councillor.
"Potholes are a nuisance for local residents. And Welsh Government have failed to deliver the bypass our town so desperately needs. Instead of investing in a bypass, it wasted taxpayer money on blanket 20mph speed limits, limits in which I've campaigned against. I will be an active and dynamic local councillor for Castle Ward residents, who will always speak up for our town."
In addition to the election, residents have the opportunity to have their say on 20mph speed limits, as part of Carmarthenshire County Council's engagement with the public. The survey is due to close on the 31st August.
