Hard bitten campaigner Havard Hughes, the Welsh Conservative Candidate for Carmarthen East and Dinefŵr has been on the doorsteps across Carmarthenshire fighting to save Glangwili Hospital from the Welsh Labour’s axe.
The campaign took a painful personal turn with a dog bite landing Hughes in hospital, not once but twice as the injury needed surgery.
Havard Hughes commented:
“We’ve been getting huge support from residents across Carmarthenshire for the campaign as getting access to healthcare in our vast rural county is not easy at the best of times.
I’m eternally grateful to the staff and doctors at Glangwili for patching me up. Having to drive for 45 minutes - hand bleeding - is a stark example of how important keeping a general hospital in Carmarthenshire is.
The current consultation plans to move our general hospital to Pembrokeshire will leave many in Carmarthenshire and southern Ceredigion without adequate access to healthcare. Not to mention the huge carbon footprint of all the extra travel time and the congested roads.
The dog that bit me might not have been barking, but Labour’s health policy in Carmarthenshire surely is.”
