Petition to Oppose Plaid Cymru's Waste Collection Proposals
The Plaid Cymru Council Cabinet is investigating the possibility of significant changes to our waste collection system, including reducing black bin bag collections to every four weeks. These changes are set to take effect by June 2026 and include:
- Moving to a four-weekly black bag collection
- Centralising waste collection at a new depot in Nantycaws
- Implementing a four-day working week for waste collection staff
- Instituting separate weekly collections for various recyclables
While we support efforts to improve recycling and environmental sustainability, we believe these proposals will place undue burden on residents and staff:
- The four-weekly collection schedule will create inconvenience and potential hygiene issues for households.
- The centralisation of the waste depot will increase travel times and costs for staff.
- The substantial council contribution required for this project could be better allocated to more effective and less disruptive measures.
We urge the Council Cabinet to reconsider these proposals and explore alternative solutions that balance environmental goals with the needs and convenience of our community.
Join us in opposing these changes and sign our petition today to protect the interests of Carmarthenshire residents.
